Letter to our guests from Elena and Benoit Lardy

Dear guests, adults and children.

We, Elena and Benoit Lardy, founders of Dom Lardy, are delighted to have you as our guests!

A few words about us. We love to travel and especially across Russia. We have slept in chums (tents) in the Arctic, been trekking in Baikal, meditated in panoramic houses in Altai, admired sunsets in glamping in Kamchatka and the Black Sea, tasted traditional pastries in Karelia and Russian wines in Yalta. From each trip we brought back new ideas and tons inspiration.

In April 2020, we ended up in the picturesque village of Lomy at our parents' house and spent the entire quarantine period here. We call the hill on which the village is located 'the magic mountain', as the views from here are wonderful. It is a special place to breathe and there are warm, interesting people living here.

Our closest and favourite ones are our parents, Nikolai Dmitrievich and Marina Vyacheslavovna. Without their touching care and constant support our project would not be possible!

And also: philosopher Viktor Evgenievich, master "gold hands" Nikolay Borisovich, who built our house, lover of bees and fabulous gardener Nikolay Nikolaevich. The famous architect couple Leo and Victoria, who have been coming here for years, and now their children are a mathematician and a brilliant art historian. The daughter of the famous Soviet writer Leonid Borodin, comes here every summer. Oleg, an expert on forests and secret paths leading to the Glebovskoye forest lake, will help you organise a walk, and you can also book from Oleg and he will pick a whole bucketful of mushrooms or forest berries (blackberries, raspberries, cranberries) for you. Our nice neighbors Alexey Grigorenko, author of the book "Quest for What’s No more" and his wife Elena, writer and amateur archaeologist, know interesting stories about the area.

We are trying to make the village come alive and bring people into contact with each other. At the end of summer, on the third Saturday in August, during the apple harvest, we hold a village festival for all the villagers. We are negotiating with the government of Yaroslavl Oblast to have the road repaired. We are arranging for the old transformer to be replaced and the electricity supply to be improved. We hope that these and many other small, but permanent changes over the next few years will make life in the village more comfortable.

We managed to find a talented architect in Rostov Veliky and partially restored the old Izba. The original casings have not survived, but we found old Rostov casings and restored them.

We really like living in panoramic houses, so we decided to build one on the estate and now we have two: the Panoramic House and the House in the Garden.
And in 2021 we received a grant for sustainable tourism from Rostourism, and were able to put up and equip five wonderful tents from our partners “Dikiy Dom”.

The interiors of Dom Lardy were conceived with the French designer Catherine Bagnalasta. She was inspired by our expanses, and decided to create a Russian interior, but with a French accent. Most of the items in the hut were found at flea markets in Russia and France, and many have their own history.

Our frequent guest, an artist and designer from Brittany in France, Muriel Ovchinnikov-Rousseau, painted an oil painting of Dom Lardy on one of her visits - a view of an Izba terrace and a pear tree. Based on this painting, she designed objects specifically for the Dom Lardy and we show them in an antique trunk. All fancy bags, bananas and duduns, as well as mackintoshes and cute cushions with paintings of Russian nature by the French artist are available.

Another of our partner friends is the Sugreff tea house. They have invented tea blends with the history of the regions and traditions of Russia. Sugreff treats ancient tea traditions with great care, and each tea blending is a story about people and journeys: Karelian, Siberian, Altaic and many others. All teas are available at the central hut, please contact our manager Sergei!

We are grateful that you have chosen a trip to Dom Lardy. Help us to become better, fill in the feedback book and leave a review about us on Yandex, share your experiences on social media. Or maybe you would like to take part in our project yourself and help us revive the village of Lomy, for example by restoring a beautiful Izba or building your own panoramic house, and become our partner neighbours.

We do our best to make you feel comfortable and cozy on our "magic mountain" in Dom Lardy.

Sincerely yours,
Elena and Benoit Lardy.
