Do you know when the first glamping campsites appeared?
More than a century ago, there was a boom in travel to Africa from Europe and America, of course, among those with a fair share of adventurism and funds. These travelers would go on spectacular safaris and devote a lot of time to learning about the local culture. They did not want to live as savages in Africa, so they spread out comfortable tents with maximal conveniences for rich tourists and their many possessions.
This is how the word and concept of glamping was formed, from two English words - glamour (luxurious, glamorous) + camping (outdoor recreation).
Glamping can also be described as super comfortable mobile camps for heads of state or major military leaders on ancient expeditions and journeys. When they were on the move, they carried a lot of household utensils and set up real mini-palaces in the countryside.
Today, the glamping sites are built in the form of spheres - or 'bubbles' - in nomadic yurts and Indian tepees, in forests, on cliffs, and on mountain tops. The exterior design of a glamping site is not restricted by any boundaries. The tent can be any geometric shape, fully or partially transparent. Its location can also be anywhere from mountaintops to treetops.
More than a hundred glamping sites have been opened in Europe alone in recent years.
